The NCAA announced some interesting news on Friday evening as the organization plans to soon vote on whether or not it will give select athletes an extra season of eligibility for those affected by the many sports cancelations across the sports world following the coronavirus outbreak.

That vote is set to take place in 10 days, on Monday, March 30.

The NCAA’s decision to prematurely cancel several winter and spring sports has resulted in many asking for the move. While we may not know how the vote will turn out for some time, at least we’ll have some clarity in the coming days.

“The NCAA Division I Council and its Coordination Committee recognize that the decisions they make must be grounded in the values of higher education and must reflect the realities of the challenges facing higher education.  This is certainly magnified during this unprecedented period resulting from COVID-19,” Grace Calhoun, chair of the NCAA’s Division I Council, said via released statement. “To that end, as an example, the Coordination Committee, acting on behalf of the Council, took timely action to address health and safety concerns among student-athletes, prospective student-athletes and coaches. The Coordination Committee identified other issues that lend themselves to full Council review and decision-making.”

In addition to this news, the NCAA is going to allow all colleges to reimburse high school students for money spent on official and unofficial trips to campuses across the country. When the NCAA canceled all sports activities, for the time being due to the coronavirus outbreak, recruiting was also halted immediately.
