SEC draft notes

Jacksonville’s selection of Florida defensive end Dante Fowler on Thursday marked the 10th consecutive year that a different SEC program has garnered the league’s top selection. The stretch began with Vanderbilt quarterback Jay Cutler in 2006.

The SEC’s position of strength this season was its offensive line and linebackers. Eleven players were drafted up front on offense, and that doesn’t include projected lottery pick La’el Collins who slipped out of the draft. Four offensive linemen from Florida were selected, highlighted by tackle D.J. Humphries in the opening round. Fowler and Shane Ray headlined a talented group of 13 linebacker-end hybrids.
