When Urban Meyer steps down as Ohio State’s head coach following the Rose Bowl this year, OC Ryan Day will take over as the head of the program.

Day has never been a head coach before, but now he’s taking over one of the top programs in the Big Ten, and even the country overall.

Day will be handsomely compensated in his new role, as it has been reported that his new contract is for five years, with a salary of $4.5 million a year:

Meyer made $7.6 million this season (the second-most in the country), but he has a national championship pedigree. Day’s $4.5 million salary would have ranked 18th in the nation, behind Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz and just ahead of Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio.

Not bad for a guy who has never been a head coach before (outside of a three-game stretch at the start of this season when Meyer was suspended).
