Oklahoma linebacker Joseph Weté has entered the transfer portal, which gives an official answer as to why he was taken off Oklahoma’s roster earlier this season.

The news is being reported by Matt Zenitz of On3.

“Weté officially entered the portal Wednesday, On3’s Matt Zenitz has learned,” the website wrote. “He was gearing up for his redshirt junior season with Oklahoma after playing in three games between 2020 and 2021 under Lincoln Riley. He totaled two tackles in that time.”

Wherever he does end up, there is a program out there that will be getting a player with some high-level potential. Whether Weté can put it together is another question, but he certainly had the hype coming into Oklahoma as a recruit.

A former 4-star recruit, 247Sports considered Weté the top 2019 player to come out of the Washington D.C. area and he was also considered a Top 200 high school recruit nationally, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

Weté had offers from Duke, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, N.C. State, Notre Dame, Pitt, Rutgers, USC, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Wisconsin before committing to the Sooners. It will be interesting to see which, if any, of those relationships he can rekindle now that he’s a “free agent.”
