Usually, schools view a chance to host ESPN’s College GameDay as a great honor, as it means their football program is hosting a huge game that week.

However, not every school has viewed the popular program that way, as the show’s producer said during a conference.

In the video below, Lee Fitting explains that Cal was the only school ever to turn down a GameDay appearance, but it happened many years ago when the school was under different leadership:

Things are different now, though. The school hosted the basketball version of the show in 2009 and Fitting said the school’s administration has made it clear they’d love to host the football version, too:

“We’ve since been told we’re welcome anytime we want to be there,” he said at the end of the video.

Of course, coming off a 5-7 campaign in 2016, the Golden Bears will have to do better if they want to host the show in the coming years.

Still, it’s nice for the ESPN executives, as well as Cal fans, to know the show is welcome there in the future.
