If Louisville players have any say in the matter, Kentucky won’t close its season at “Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.”

The Wildcats will still play at the Cardinals’ home stadium, but the hope of at least 2 Louisville players is that the venue isn’t called “Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.”

That came on the heels of Papa John’s founder and chairman, John Schnatter, resigning from Louisville’s board of trustees because of a racial slur he admitted to saying on a conference call back in May.

Following his resignation on Wednesday, Louisville players Seth Dawkins and Jaylen Smith took to Twitter to voice their opposition to a stadium named after the longtime Louisville supporter:

According to Card Chronicle, the naming rights to the stadium are actually with Schnatter and not Papa John’s. The current naming rights deal reportedly runs through 2040-41.

Given Schnatter’s resignation from Louisville’s board of trustees, it could be possible that he elects to take his name off the football stadium.

Louisville has bookend regular season matchups with SEC squads, though the season opener against Alabama is in Orlando.
