Paul Finebaum at the midseason point assessed the depth in the SEC during his regular visit to “McElroy and Cubelic In the morning” on WJOX where Greg McElroy pointed out that all but 3 teams have been ranked.
“Think about LSU in the ACC right now, or Florida in another league where they’re just being overwhelmed because of the competition on a weekly basis in the SEC,” Finebaum said.
Finebaum then recalled talking to Brian Kelly at LSU and noted that the Florida State game has been rehashed, but the Tennessee game was pure bad luck.
“He could’ve had Vanderbilt or Missouri on that Saturday and they would be in a completely different position right now waiting for Alabama undefeated in the SEC,” Finebaum said. “… Because the league is so deep, we tend to look at Auburn and others in the second division and go, ‘They’re having a terrible year.’ Part of that is where they reside.”
