Will the upcoming college football season be played? That’s the million-dollar question hovering over the sport that everyone seems to be asking.

SEC Network host Paul Finebaum was asked to share his take on the subject on Monday during his most recent appearance on Birmingham-based 94.5 FM radio show “The Roundtable” and the ESPN host did not disappoint with his answer.

Here’s how the SEC Network host responded when asked to rate his confidence level in the season being played on a scale from 1 to 10 — with 10 being the highest level of confidence.

“Yeah, I’m pretty high… I mean, I would be shocked if we don’t have college football this year,” Finebaum said on the show. “And I say that based on just everyone, everyone saying what they’re saying.”

While noting that things could obviously change, Finebaum is currently very high on the season being played. However, when it comes to Alabama and Southern Cal meeting in the season opener in Arlington, Texas, the SEC Network host doesn’t have nearly as much faith in seeing that game being played.

“I go on the low end of SC and Alabama playing,” Finebaum continued. “You could read it in the denials last week, or not the denials, but the statements. Both ADs tried to shoot the report down, that they weren’t playing and then they both admitted well we’re talking to people. To me, that game is just too difficult to pull off.”

One thing that’s helping boost Finebaum’s confidence that college football is happening is based on the fact the sport won’t have to rush into the season, after all, there’s still so much time left before the season arrives. In addition to that, college football will be able to watch and learn from the other sports that tip-off before the football season arrives.

“The season isn’t, it’s not gonna be easy for the season, but the one advantage college football has is they’ll get to see what everybody else does first,” he added. “Even learning from NASCAR from golf, from MLB. They’ll also get a pretty good primer from the NFL.

“So, I think because of that and the determination is there to start the season. I mean there are always variables, I don’t mean to back away from what I said, but short of something, you know, really terrible happening, I think we’ll see your college football season. What it’s going to look like, I have no idea but I do think we’ll see it.”
