Georgia did unspeakable things to TCU Monday night. The Bulldogs officially repeated as national champions in a game that can only loosely be described as football, winning 65-7. The evening was competitive for about 2 minutes in the 1st quarter.

Paul Finebaum appeared on ESPN’s “Get Up” Tuesday morning to discuss the above blowout. Many stated that TCU simply did not belong last night and wondered out loud whether or not the idea of an expanded playoff is worth it if the same dominant result keeps happening.

It does seem like every year there is at least one team that is simply vastly outmatched. Will more blowouts like this happen in the future?

Finebaum thinks not. He explained his thinking on the show:

“I think it’s an outlier,” Finebaum said about Monday’s title game blowout. “We had two great semifinal games, we had a horrible — horrible doesn’t even begin to describe what we saw last night — it would’ve been worse last night if Georgia hadn’t missed an extra point at the end.

“The point is that the 12-team Playoff, I think, is going to be the most exciting thing we’ve seen in college football. So, everyone wants to blast TCU and blast the committee and dunk on poor Heather (Dinich). The bottom line is Alabama lost 2 games. If Alabama hadn’t lost to LSU, they would’ve been in the Playoff. It’s not the committee’s fault, it’s Alabama’s fault.”

The CFP will expand to 12 teams in the very near future, scheduled now for the 2024-25 season. In the meantime, is there anyone who can dethrone No. 1 Georgia?
