College football’s Heisman Trophy race got a shot in the arm just two weeks into the season.

Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts is putting up crazy numbers through two games — nine total touchdowns. Two preseason Heisman favorites Trevor Lawrence and Tua Tagovailoa are doing similar, although Lawrence has less. Lawrence has recorded four total touchdowns, while Tagovailoa has totaled eight touchdowns. LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, like Hurts, has jumped onto the scene with his 2019 play. Burrow has thrown for 749 yards and nine touchdowns.

Paul Finebaum hopped on ESPN’s “Get Up” Tuesday morning and ranked his top three contenders. Finebaum listed 1. Hurts, 2. Lawrence and 3. Tagovailoa. Finebaum added that if he could have a fourth, Burrow would be it.

ESPN colleague and former LSU player Ryan Clark responded, “Joe Burrow is outplaying Trevor Lawrence right now, and it’s not even close.”

Numbers-wise he certainly is. Burrow has thrown for 313 more yards and seven more touchdowns.

Still, with all the Burrow talk, Hurts has to be the favorite right now; however, the Heisman Trophy isn’t won just two weeks into the season.
