Payton Kirkland, 4-star OT for 2023 and SEC target, reveals commitment
Payton Kirkland is a massive offensive tackle for the class of 2023. After previously unveiling a group of 5 finalists, Kirkland pulled off a switch with his eventual commitment.
In March, the 4-star OT prospect unveiled a final group that included Alabama and Florida out of the SEC. Miami (FL), Michigan State and Oklahoma were also listed.
However, when it came time for Kirkland’s decision, he went with Steve Sarkisian’s Texas program with his commitment.

Kirkland said he kept Texas in his “back pocket” throughout his recruitment before they led the way at the end:
“The communication really never stopped,” Kirkland said per Chad Simmons with On3. “Texas was always in my back pocket. They were always called the Sixth Man or the Dark Horse of my recruitment. They just ended up being in the front pocket and leading the way.”
According to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, Kirkland is the No. 25 OT nationally for the class of 2023.
