Who knew announcers could even be traded?

It’s rare but we’ve seen coaches be traded in professional sports but apparently ESPN is trying to go a step further and trade for one of the most iconic broadcasters in sports.

According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, ESPN is attempting to acquire “Sunday Night Football” announcer Al Michaels in order to have the veteran announcer join the “Monday Night Football” broadcast booth. Potentially even bigger news, ESPN is hoping to pair Michaels with Peyton Manning for the booth.

Marchand is reporting that Manning is ESPN’s top choice to be the new “Monday Night Football” analyst after Tony Romo resigned with CBS Sports. Marchand is also reporting that Philip Rivers is a candidate for the role, however, the longtime Chargers signal-caller is expected to continue his playing career in 2020.

ESPN’s current “Monday Night Football” broadcast team is made up of Joe Tessitore and Booger McFarland. The duo was previously a trio for one season before Jason Witten unretired and rejoined the Dallas Cowboys.

Incredibly, Michaels has been traded by ESPN once before as the network traded the legendary broadcaster to NBC for a cartoon called Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. No, we aren’t making that up.

The story behind that trade can be read here.

What do you make of the potential pairing of Michaels and Manning in the “Monday Night Football” booth?
