One local Missourian gave a new meaning to the term joyride in the early morning hours, as he crashed his car through two security gates at Mizzou Arena and drove on the hardwood court.

According to a report by the Kansas City Star, a Columbia man named Nathaniel J. Conant used his Volkswagen Passat as a battering ram Monday morning to gain entry into Norm Stewart Court, where the Tigers play their basketball games.

The early morning romp will cost the Univerity around $100,000 in damages, according to a spokesperson Brian Weimer. He went to describe the bizarre incident as follows:

“Through investigation, we were able to determine that just after 4 a.m. a vehicle was driven through a closed gate on the south side of Mizzou Arena and then went through a garage door in the back dock area.”

“The car did make it to the court and back out.”

On his way in, he destroyed one automated entry gate as well as damaging several golf carts parked along the concourse. On the way out, he was unable to exit through the path he had forged and decided to take out the media gate as well. Here’s

Here’s a picture of the aftermath of his exit:

Conant turned himself into the university police department, where he was charged with second-degree burglary and four counts of first-degree property damage. There has been no word on how the university plans on repaying the damages, or if they will pursue civil action against Conant.

Further deepening the plot, Conant is listed on the UM student directory as part of the SEC Network events staff who helps to set up when the Tigers are on TV, according to Dave Matter of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Just as Mizzou basketball looked to be turning around its national perception, this incident will seemingly set them back a pretty penny.
