Hugh Freeze drew plenty of attention on Saturday as word quickly spread that he would coach from a hospital bed in the press box of Liberty’s game against Syracuse.

A photo tweeted by Yahoo’s college football account received more than 1,200 retweets and 2,600 likes on Twitter in just over an hour. Freeze appeared to have a headset on in the booth while sitting in the bed.

The Liberty coach is recovering from a staph infection and subsequent surgery, and has missed time this preseason while in the hospital. Freeze, the former Ole Miss coach, originally had back spasms that kept him away from the team.

The school said he’s most comfortable when reclined. The Flames travel to Louisiana-Lafayette next week, and Freeze plans to make the flight.

This is Freeze’s first season since his dismissal from Ole Miss ahead of the 2017 campaign.
