Nobody’s perfect, and that includes us here at Saturday Down South. But we do believe in second chances (or third or fourth). So a month into the college football season, here’s where we have your favorite team tabbed to finish its regular season.

West

Alabama: 12-0

We still have seen nothing to change our minds — well, except about how much we’re looking forward to Bama vs. LSU.

Arkansas: 3-9

They play Western Kentucky on Nov. 9. Might want to circle that one on the calendar, Hogs fans.

Auburn: 9-3

That was pretty impressive work by Auburn this week. Impressive enough that we thought about going to 10-2, and depending on injuries and matchups, the Tigers could give a fierce battle to one of the Big 3 left on their schedule.

LSU: 11-1

Nov. 9 in Tuscaloosa is the date you’re wondering about. Could it be only the first of a couple of meetings for these two teams?

Mississippi State: 7-5

Solid win for State, but the cream of the West crop won’t make as many mistakes as Kentucky did Saturday. On the bright side, UK and UT (rotating) as the cross-divisional opponents makes for a fine chance at an East sweep.

Ole Miss: 5-7

That was a tough, tough loss for the Rebels that they couldn’t afford to take if they hoped to end up in a bowl game. Maybe the QB change will give them a jump start moving ahead?

Texas A&M: 7-5

Solid 4th quarter by Kellen Mond, but the Aggies have to keep up early to have a chance in games like their matchup with Auburn.

East

Florida: 9-3

Florida was great against Tennessee and they went down in our projections just because Auburn impressed a little more than the Gators did. On the other hand, the once and former WLOCP could be up for the taking this year?

Georgia: 11-1

Was this a gutty triumph of a team in a top 10 matchup? Or was Georgia almost as vastly overrated as we all assumed Notre Dame was? We’re leaning toward the first, but still weighing the possibility of the second. Bulldogs can sleepwalk through October, but November will be a challenge.

Kentucky: 7-5

Sorry, but if Kentucky wants to have another 9-3 type season, it has to beat a freshman QB making his first start — and not only didn’t they, but State looked constantly more comfortable than the Wildcats did. South Carolina next week got even bigger for both teams.

Missouri: 9-3

It’s time for a bye week and then an October which presents a biggest challenge of playing Kentucky. If not for that awful Wyoming loss, Mizzou could be a CFP darkhorse into November.

South Carolina: 6-6

Carolina has to beat Kentucky to stay in the bowl picture. If they don’t, a 4-8 season is pretty likely.

Tennessee: 3-9

UT has an excellent chance of starting this season 1-7. If that happens, it’s not clear if anybody will care much about what goes down in November.

Vanderbilt: 5-7

OK, Commodores. The next 3 are winnable — in fact, they’re pretty much all must-wins. If they can’t nab all 3, a 4-8 season is the likely ceiling for the ‘Dores.
