The SEC is filled with elite defensive players, especially at national powerhouses such as Alabama and Georgia.

Who have been the best defensive players from the SEC through the first five weeks of the 2018 season? With so much talent, it can be hard to narrow the list down. However, that’s what Pro Football Focus has done.

The site graded the top five defensive players from each conference, including the SEC, at this point in the season. Here are the five that lead the SEC:

  1. Quinnen Williams, Alabama defensive end
  2. Deionte Thompson, Alabama safety
  3. Josh Allen, Kentucky linebacker
  4. Deandre Baker, Georgia cornerback
  5. Armon Watts, Arkansas defensive tackle

It’s not much of a surprise that the Crimson Tide have the top two players in the rankings. No. 1 Alabama is off to a 5-0 start and has only allowed more than 14 points in a game once.

Allen’s Wildcats have been a surprise this year as they are also 5-0, which includes wins over Florida and Mississippi State.

These five players have certainly gotten off to strong starts, but the grades could certainly change as the season progresses.
