That’s the number of SEC teams that made an appearance within the first 10 spots of Pro Football Focus’ preseason Top 25 rankings ahead of the 2016 college football season. Sounds great, right?

Yes and no. Yes because that’s a lot of southern power at the top half of the FBS, and that would mean several legitimate SEC contenders for the College Football Playoff by December. No because that would mean significant drop off after that, as there’s only one other SEC to make the cut the rest of the way when it comes to the No. 11-25 spots.

As expected, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, and Ole Miss are listed pretty high. A wild card in most rankings, Texas A&M is the only other representative, meaning Arkansas, Florida, and Georgia were shut out completely.
