Projecting AP Top 25 after Week 10

It was an off day for many teams ranked in the Associated Press Top 25, and voters might feel like taking a weekend off and sending in their same ballots from last weekend – with a few key changes.

The big game of the day was the Cocktail Party in Jacksonville. No. 8 Georgia knocked off No. 6 Florida and should take UF’s old spot.

What will the voters do with Florida? We project they’ll give UF a similar treatment to what they gave Auburn. The Gators and Tigers have similar resumes now – two losses to top-10 teams away from home. The voters put AU at No. 11 after the Week 9 loss at LSU. Auburn held on to beat Ole Miss 20-14 on Saturday, so no need to move the Tigers ahead of the Gators, creating a landing spot at No. 10.

Sadly, SEC fans, it’s probably time to welcome UCF back into the rankings. Two spots look to be opening up and the Knights were among the top vote-getters just outside the top 25 a week ago.

Here’s how we project the AP Top 25 to look after Week 10:

  1. LSU (8-0, off Week 10)
  2. Alabama (8-0, off Week 10)
  3. Ohio State (8-0, off Week 10)
  4. Clemson (9-0) def. Wofford, 59-14
  5. Penn State (8-0, off Week 10)
  6. Georgia (7-1) def. No. 6 Florida, 24-17
  7. Oregon (8-1) def. USC, 56-24
  8. Utah (8-1) def. Washington, 33-28
  9. Oklahoma (7-1, off Week 10)
  10. Florida (7-2) lost to No. 8 Georgia, 24-17
  11. Auburn (7-2) def. Ole Miss, 20-14
  12. Baylor (8-0) def. West Virginia, 17-14
  13. Minnesota (8-0, off Week 10)
  14. Michigan (7-2) def. Maryland, 38-7
  15. Notre Dame (6-2) def. Virginia Tech, 21-20
  16. Cincinnati (7-1) def. East Carolina, 46-43
  17. Wisconsin (6-2, off Week 10)
  18. Iowa (6-2, off Week 10)
  19. Memphis (8-1) def. No. 15 SMU, 54-48
  20. SMU (8-1) lost to. No. 24 Memphis, 54-48
  21. Kansas State (6-2) def. Kansas, 38-10
  22. Wake Forest (7-1) def. NC State, 44-10
  23. UCF (7-2) def. Houston, 44-29
  24. Oklahoma State (6-3) def. TCU, 34-27
  25. San Diego State (7-1, off Week 10)

Projected to fall out of the AP Top 25: No. 20 App State (7-1) lost to Georgia Southern, 24-21; No. 21 Boise State trailing San Jose State 17-14 2Q
