Rece Davis explains why he has Mississippi State in his top-25 over LSU
College GameDay host Rece Davis often discusses his AP Poll votes on Twitter, and he did so on Monday heading into Week 9 of the 2017 season.
One SEC-related tidbit that he mentioned was that he voted Mississippi State at No. 25 and didn’t have LSU in the poll at all.
Davis explained that he thinks LSU has gotten better in recent weeks, but the Bulldogs’ 37-7 victory over the Tigers earlier this year gives them the advantage:
I put @HailStateFB 25th. didn’t rank @LSUfootball this week. MSU head to head blowout is edge, though Tigers diff team than when they played

Davis said he thinks things would be different if LSU and Mississippi State played now, but added that he has to go with the earlier meeting between the two teams, which was won convincingly by the Bulldogs:
What do you think would happen if they played now?

Wouldn’t be 37-7 but fact remains, they played already & it was. If it were 37-34, I’d have an easier time with it. Same logic as OU/Ohio St

Both LSU and Mississippi State play Alabama in the coming weeks, so those games should provide a better look at who is currently the better team.
For now, though, Davis gives the edge to the Bulldogs.
