Rece Davis believes a change is coming to the top of this week’s College Football Playoff rankings.
Last week, Ohio State held the top spot with Georgia at No. 2, but the college football analyst believes Georgia’s win over Missouri on Saturday should be enough to move them to the No. 1 spot. He also believes that Ohio State’s struggles against Rutgers could lead to the Bulldogs dethroning the Buckeyes.
“I think it’s gonna be Georgia, because Ohio State certainly last week had the best resume, and they probably still do, but I haven’t thought that they were the best team yet,” Davis said on the Dan Patrick Show on Monday. “And Georgia, good win over a really good Missouri team, I would suspect that there were a number of people on that committee that thought they were the best team already, but needed something. Just needed something to validate it and maybe that win over Missouri will be enough, combined with Ohio State’s struggle over an improving, but certainly not juggernaut Rutgers team.”
While Georgia could very likely be the No. 1 team this week, the Bulldogs have a few more chances to prove that they are the best team over the course of the coming weeks. Georgia will Ole Miss this week before traveling to Knoxville to face Tennessee. A couple of big wins should leave no doubt about Georgia.
