Rece Davis revealed his 2023 College Football Playoff predictions this week on the College GameDay podcast.

Let’s hop right into it. Davis has 2 teams from last season’s playoff cracking the 4-team field in 2023 with 2 newcomers: Florida State, USC, Georgia and Michigan. No Alabama, no Ohio State and no LSU.

Davis was asked specifically if the SEC would get more than 1 team into the playoff as Michigan and Ohio State did last year for the B1G.

He explains why he doesnt think so below:

“I will answer the question and say the SEC only gets one,” Davis said. “It will be Georgia. And I think the four Playoff teams are going to be Georgia, Michigan, USC and Florida State.”

A lot has changed for Georgia from last year to this year, but it would be foolish to assume the Bulldogs will take a massive step backwards. Anyone not placing the Bulldogs in the 4-team field, especially when considering their schedule, must know something we don’t.

Michigan is in a similar boat. The Wolverines have to face off against Ohio State and Penn State but feature dangerous offensive and defensive lines while possessing maybe the best 1-2 punch at RB in the country.

Florida State and USC are a pair of trendy picks to crack the CFP field, mostly on account of their QB situations. The Trojans return Heisman winner Caleb Williams under center and are a defensive fix away from being a top 3 program in the country.

Jordan Travis returns in Tallahassee to lead Trey Benson and what should be a stout Florida State squad in the ACC. The Seminoles will have their work cut out for them Week 1 against Brian Kelly’s LSU Tigers, though.
