According to a leading recruiting expert, 6 SEC teams have the talent to potentially win a national championship in 2020.

Bud Elliott of 247Sports shared his yearly article on which college football teams have the best Blue Chip Ratio. In 2020, 15 teams have 50 percent or more players who were rated 4- or 5-stars according to Elliott’s number-crunching. The article is based on the need to acquire the best talent – sign more 4- and 5-star players than 3-stars (and below) – to win the national championship.

Here are Elliott’s 15 teams:

  • Alabama – 83 percent BCR
  • Georgia – 82
  • Ohio State – 80
  • Texas – 64
  • LSU – 63
  • Oklahoma – 63
  • Clemson – 63
  • Florida – 63
  • Michigan – 59
  • Auburn – 59
  • Penn State – 59
  • Notre Dame – 56
  • Washington – 54
  • USC – 50
  • Texas A&M – 50

It’s important to note that Elliott counts scholarship signings of players out of high school and JUCO transfers. Elliott does not count non-JUCO transfers – grad transfers, transfer portal – are not counted because they “are not “governed by the same recruit rules.” He also notes they are not given Composite rankings, his source data.

Elliott notes that the last two years, all 4 teams were “BCR” schools. LSU won last year’s national championship with a 64 percent BCR. The Tigers are certainly close to that mark again despite losing a high volume to this year’s NFL Draft.
