The Big 12 is looking to expand, and one school in particular has stood out as the most attractive candidate.

A source that’s close to the issue told Sporting News that the Big 12, which will see its athletic directors and presidents convene this Thursday and Friday, respectively, are eyeing BYU as a potential addition.

That’s due to the fact that the Cougars have a large fan base, competitive facilities and lots of money. However, they also don’t compete on Sundays, and that’s a major snag in the idea.

Sporting News speculates that the Big 12 could stretch East by adding UConn and Cincinnati or it could reach into Florida by adding Central Florida and South Florida.

On the other hand, one has to believe the conference has less incentive to expand due to the fact that a rule was recently established that allows the league to have a conference championship game despite only having 10 members.
