The Colorado Mesa University football team is in mourning this weekend after a player was shot and killed.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, only hours before a game against Chadron State, junior RB Brett Ojiyi was killed in Grand Junction.

According to The Denver Post, police were called to a house on Main Street, where they found Ojiyi with a gunshot wound to his chest:

Just after midnight Saturday, Grand Junction police said they were called to a home in the 100 block of Main Street for a report of a shooting. Officers said they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He died at the scene.

The redshirt junior had been with the team for four years.

The university decided to play the game anyway, losing 38-34 to Chadron State.
