Report: Liberty preparing big offer to keep Hugh Freeze in Lynchburg
The Liberty Flames went 7-5 in Hugh Freeze’s first year at the helm of the program, even while the former Ole Miss coach dealt with serious complications from a surgery.
Now, as Freeze receives a bit of buzz on the coaching carousel, it seems Liberty is willing to attempt to keep Freeze around.
Per CBS Sports reporter Barrett Sallee, Liberty is willing to make Freeze one of the highest-paid coaches at the Group of 5 level:
Source tells me that Liberty is prepared to offer Hugh Freeze an extension that will make him one of the highest-paid coaches in the Group of Five. Freeze led the Flames to a 7-5 record in his first season with the program.

Per USA TODAY’s coaching salary database, USF’s Charlie Strong was the highest-paid G5 coach in 2019, making $5 million. Houston’s Dana Holgorsen was second, making $3.7 million.
Where would Liberty’s offer put Freeze? We’ll have to see if he ends up staying with the Flames.
