It has been a tough year at Louisville, to say the least. The Cardinals are an abysmal 2-8 and coming off a 54-23 loss to Syracuse this week.

With games remaining against ranked NC State and Kentucky teams, the Cardinals decided to go ahead and make a dramatic move.

Per Yahoo! reporter Pat Forde, the Cardinals fired coach Bobby Petrino on Sunday morning:

There have been rumors of this happening for a few weeks now, but the Cardinals decided to finally go ahead and make it a reality, apparently.

Petrino finishes his second Louisville stint (he also coached the Cardinals from 2003 to 2006) with a 77-35 record — not bad at all. However, after losing star QB Lamar Jackson to the NFL, things have really imploded this year. Add to that all the behind-the-scenes drama, including a reported 20 players asking for transfer paperwork, and it’s easy to see why the administration thought it was time for him to go.
