In the latest chapter of the seemingly never-ending saga between Ole Miss and the NCAA, attorneys for the school are reportedly seeking to get two Mississippi State players to attend its upcoming hearing with the NCAA Committee on Infractions.

Last week, soon after Hugh Freeze resigned from his role as head coach of the program, Ole Miss received the NCAA’s response to the school’s response to the second Notice of Allegations handed down by the NCAA. The NCAA’s response has not yet publicly been released, however, that information is expected to be made public within the next week. With all responses now issued, the hearing with the COI can commence in the coming weeks.

According to Mark Schlabach of ESPN, Ole Miss will seek to get Mississippi State players Leo Lewis and Kobe Jones to attend the hearing. During the recruitment process, both players were pursued by Ole Miss and claim to have received improper benefits from boosters in order to sign with the Rebels. Both players received immunity from the NCAA in exchange for testimony regarding their recruitment. The resulting testimony helped the NCAA build its case against Ole Miss.

Schlabach also reports the NCAA has denied Ole Miss the opportunity to interview the players in the past. It remains unclear whether the NCAA can do so again for the upcoming hearing.

The date of the hearing with the COI has not yet been set but it’s likely to be held in within the next six to eight weeks.

One issue for all parties could be another suit currently filed by the owner of Ole Miss memorabilia store Rebel Rags. The store has been accused of providing free swag to several recruits, which would constitute a NCAA violation, as the NCAA has classified the store’s owner as an Ole Miss booster. That case is still ongoing against the two MSU players and the former stepfather of Laremy Tunsil.

Once the NCAA’s response has been made public, we may have more clarity on the situation regarding the two Mississippi State players, but until that time, this story continues to take one twist after another with no end in sight.
