Report: Pac-12 Network payouts to schools are comically low compared to SEC

The Pac-12 is struggling, and not just in football. This year, if Washington wins the conference title in men’s basketball, the Pac-12 may only get one team in the NCAA Tournament.
That would be a failure of epic proportions for a Power 5 conference, but that’s where the Pac-12 is these days. The Pac-12 Network isn’t helping matters, either.
The network has been around since 2013, but the yearly payouts to each school are still embarrassingly low. Per a report from the San Jose Mercury News, each school only received $2,666,667 from the network in 2018.
Compare that to the SEC Network, which distributed around $40 million to each of the SEC’s 14 schools in 2017, per USA TODAY.
Meanwhile, commissioner Larry Scott (who also serves as the head of the network) makes an annual salary of $4.8 million — the highest of any Power 5 commissioner.
