Urban Meyer is being linked to USC. This time it’s more than just social media speculation by college football fans.

Brett McMurphy of Stadium is reporting that Meyer is the No. 1 target to be the next Trojans coach and that Southern Cal is willing to do “whatever it takes to get him,” per sources.

“We think the guy that can do it is Urban,” a source told Murphy. “He did it at Utah, Florida and Ohio State, but the question is if he’s really interested.”

The other part of the equation, of course, is that as of right now there is no vacancy at USC. Trojans coach Clay Helton entered the 2019 season on the hot seat. Helton’s squad is 5-3 and first in the Pac-12 South heading into Week 10. The Trojans face No. 7 Oregon on Saturday (8 p.m. ET).

with USC’s prominence, tradition and in-state recruiting, it’s not hard to see why Meyer might be interested in the job if it comes open. Since retiring as Ohio State’s head coach, Meyer has maintained a high profile as an analyst with FOX. He is also a teacher and administrator at OSU and restaurant/bar owner in Ohio. In interviews, Meyer has left the door open on a possible return to coaching football.

Meyer’s record as a head coach at Bowling Green, Utah, Florida and Ohio State is an impressive 187-32.
