Report: Vince McMahon set to announce creation of new pro football league
Is the XFL 2.0 coming in the near future?
Vince McMahon’s long-rumored football league appears to be a reality, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell.
Rovell broke news Thursday morning that Vince McMahon will soon be announcing the creation of a new pro football league. McMahon has tried this once before, of course, starting up the XFL in 1999. The league began play in 2001 and only lasted one season due mostly to the poor on-the-field product it displayed.
NBC carried coverage of the league back in 2001 but with its NFL Sunday Night package, it’s highly doubtful the network would carry this potential new league. That being said, there are more networks now available to cover such a league and it should have no issue finding potential coverage partners that are not interested in getting in the bidding war that NFL rights deals bring.
BREAKING: @VinceMcMahon will announce later today that his investment company @alphaentllc will start a pro football league. Announcement will be made at 3pm ET on company’s social media pages.
