Reporter mistakenly identifies football coach as Vince Young during live TV interview
Golf Channel reporter Lauren Withrow had a tough day at the office on Thursday.
While doing a live spot for the Golf Channel during the BMW Charity Pro-AM, Withrow conducted an interview with a person who she thought was legendary Texas quarterback Vince Young.
Withrow was wrong.
Instead, she was interviewing another golfer at the pro-am — Citadel assistant coach Everette Sands.
Here’s video of the awkward moment:
I’m dying laughing they thought they were talking to Vince Young, might be the most awkward interview I’ve ever seen pic.twitter.com/cjz0gYqg9D

Withrow prepared questions for Young, asking him about the transition from the football field to the golf course. After clarifying that he wasn’t the former Texas legend, Sands answered Withrow’s question from his perspective.
That’s a highly unfortunate mistake to make, but it seems this was handled as well as possible by all parties involved.
Later in the day, WCIV’s Scott Eisenberg spoke to Sands about the mixup:
I haven’t laughed this hard in a while. On live national TV, a Golf Channel reporter thinks she’s interviewing Vince Young.
She’s in fact interviewing Citadel football great and assistant coach Everette Sands.

To his credit, Sands was one of the best players in Citadel history during his playing days. He rushed for 3,926 yards and earned all-conference honors twice during his career with the Bulldogs. He was inducted into the Citadel Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004. He’s now on staff as an “offensive skill specialist” for the program.
