Will the third time prove to be the charm for the XFL?

It will if Dwayne “The Rock’’ Johnson has anything to say about it.

The former WWE superstar turned Hollywood movie star and entrepreneur has just staked his claim into the sports world and teamed up with Gerry Cardinale’s RedBird Capital to purchase the XFL for $15 million according to Scott Soshnick of Sportico.

According to Sportico, Johnson and Cardinale plan to evenly split ownership of the XFL. Interestingly, Johnson’s ex-wife and business partner Dany Garcia will also be a stakeholder in the XFL, according to Sportico.

The XFL hit auction block after filing for bankruptcy under former owner Vince McMahon.

The second rendition of the XFL hit the field this spring to much acclaim before the coronavirus pandemic shut down the league, eventually leading to the end of its second run.
