Roman Harper knows what it takes to be an elite defensive player in the SEC, and he has made a list of the top 5 defensive players in the league so far this season.

The SEC Network analyst likes South Carolina’s Jaylan Foster, LSU’s Damone Clark, Georgia’s Nakobe Dean, Georgia’s Jalen Carter and Alabama’s Will Anderson Jr.

Harper likes that Foster has meaningful stats in several categories and said, “Got it all covered, he’s been ballin’ and I want to give him some love. And he was a former walk-on I believe.”

Clark is the SEC’s leading tackler with 79, and added a key interception last week against Florida.

But about Dean, Harper said he didn’t care about his stats, and added that, “he is the leader of that defense. When you’re looking at anything happening, or any type of big play, it’s usually because of No. 17 Nakobe Dean has something to do with it.”

Another player on the “no-name defense” at Georgia is Carter, who has somewhat been overlooked next to DT Jordan Davis.

“Jalen Carter to me has been the most impressive, he is a game wrecker every week,” Harper said.

The No. 1 player is Anderson, who Harper said is called the “terminator.” He also noted that Anderson has 7 sacks, and he had 7 sacks all of last season.
