The NFL held its annual awards banquet Saturday night on the eve of the Super Bowl, and three SEC alums combined to earn four honors by the end of the night.

Former LSU wideout and current New York Giants superstar Odell Beckham Jr. was honored as the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year, beating out guard Zach Martin of the Dallas Cowboys and former Texas A&M and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout Mike Evans.

Beckham caught 91 passes for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns, and did so in just 12 games after sitting out the first four games of the season with an injury. Evans caught 68 passes for 1,051 yards and 12 touchdowns of his own.

Beckham was also honored for the NFL’s Play of the Year, which, to the surprise of no one, was his incredible one-handed 43-yard touchdown catch against the Dallas Cowboys.

But Beckham was not alone in representing the SEC at the NFL Honors banquet. A pair of former Georgia Bulldogs joined him on the list of award recipients in Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis and Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston.

Houston was honored as the 2015 Deacon Jones Award winner, given annually to the NFL’s sacks leader from the previous season. He recorded 22 sacks and four forced fumbles for the season.

Davis was honored with the prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year Award for his work away from the field with his Thomas Davis Defending Dreams Foundation (TDDDF). The organization provides and promotes free programs that benefit underprivileged children in the Charlotte, N.C., area, as well as in South Carolina and Davis’ hometown of Shellman, Ga.

The TDDDF provides two college scholarships each year to high school seniors who complete the Youth Leadership Academy program. It also hosts annual back-to-school giveaways, Thanksgiving meals and Christmas gift donations.

Davis is known to be active in community service projects outside of his foundation. This year was the fourth time he was nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, the second time he was a finalist for the honor and the first time he won the award. His acceptance speech was one of the highlights of the awards banquet.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers won league MVP for the second time in his career, while Dallas Cowboys tailback Demarco Murray won Offensive Player of the Year and Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt won Defensive Player of the Year.

The NFL released its 2015 Hall of Fame class, which includes past stars like Jerome Bettis, Tim Brown and the late Junior Seau, but no SEC alums.
