SEC announces Week 8 Players of the Week

With another weekend of college football in the books, the SEC league office has officially named its Week 8 SEC Players of the Week:

Offensive Player of the Week – Derrius Guice, RB, LSU

  • Rushed for 276 yards and a touchdown in the 40-24 win over Ole Miss.
  • Became the only player in SEC history to record three games of 250 rushing yards in a career.
  • Averaged 12.5 YPC in the big win.

Co-Defensive Player of the Week – Levi Wallace, DB, Alabama

  • Recorded six tackles and helped Alabama shutout Tennessee’s offense in the Tide’s 45-7 win.
  • Notched two sacks and three tackles for loss in the game.
  • Helped limit the Vols to 44 yards passing and a 66.9 passer efficiency rating.

Co-Defensive Player of the Week – Jeff Holland, DE, Auburn

  • Recorded 1.5 sacks, 1.5 TFL, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and three tackles.
  • Forced his fumbles on back-to-back series against Arkansas.
  • Became the first Auburn player with multiple forced fumbles in a game since 2011.

Special Teams Player of the Week – Connor Culp, PK, LSU

  • Went 4 for 4 on field goal attempts in the win over Ole Miss.
  • Four field goals in a game is tied for second most in a game in LSU history.
  • Recorded 16 points in the game which is the third best single-game mark for points in a game by a kicker in LSU history.

Co-Freshman of the Week – Nick Coe, DL, Auburn

  • Tied his career high with six tackles and added half a sack and half a tackle for loss.
  • Tied for the team lead in tackles in the win over Arkansas.

Co-Freshman of the Week – Albert Okwuegbunam, TE, Missouri

  • Recorded three touchdown catches in the first quarter to propel the Tigers to a big lead in the 68-21 rout of Idaho.
  • Finished with four catches, 57 yards, and 3 TDs.
  • His touchdowns came from 19, 18, and 10 yards and were all scored in the first quarter.

Offensive Lineman of the Week – Deion Calhoun, RG, Mississippi State

  • Graded out at 93% with three knockdown blocks in the Bulldogs win over Kentucky.
  • Paved the way for a rushing attack that gained 282 yards on the ground.
  • Did not allow a sack by the Wildcats in the win.

Defensive Lineman of the Week – Montez Sweat, DE, Mississippi State

  • Set career high marks in tackles (7), TFL (2.5), and sacks (1.5).
  • Helped hold the Wildcats to just 115 yards rushing in the game.
