SEC announces Week 9 Players of the Week

With another weekend of college football in the books, the SEC league office has officially named its Week 9 SEC Players of the Week:

Co-Offensive Player of the Week – Nick Fitzgerald, QB, Mississippi State

  • Put up 246 total yards and 3 TDs in 35-14 win on the road over No. 24 Texas A&M.
  • Ran for 105 yards, Fitzgerald’s third straight game with 100 rushing yards.
  • It also marked his 12th career 100-yard rushing game, a record for SEC QBs.

Co-Offensive Player of the Week – Benny Snell, RB, Kentucky

  • Set season-high marks in rushes (27), rushing yards (180), and touchdowns (3) in win over Tennessee.
  • Recorded his fourth 100-yard game of the season and ninth of his career.
  • Is now ranked inside Kentucky’s top 10 career rushers with 1,812 yards.

Co-Defensive Player of the Week – Jordan Jones, LB, Kentucky

  • Recorded a game-high 13 tackles with two tackles for loss and a sack against Tennessee.
  • Recorded all three tackles on one possession to force the Volunteers to punt.
  • Marked Jones’ fifth career game with at least 10 tackles.

Co-Defensive Player of the Week – J.R. Reed, DB, Georgia

  • Helped the Bulldogs defense limit Florida to 66 yards passing in the 42-7 Georgia victory.
  • Finished the game with eight tackles and half a sack.
  • Scored a touchdown on a three-yard fumble recovery following a sack of Florida QB Feleipe Franks.

Special Teams Player of the Week –  De’Vion Warren, WR/KR, Arkansas

  • Had five kickoff returns for 141 total return yards.
  • Had a long return of 45 yards in the fourth quarter that helped establish good field position for the Razorbacks.
  • Leads the SEC with an average kickoff return of 29.1 yards.

Freshman of the Week – Cole Kelley, QB, Arkansas

  • Helped the Razorbacks erase a 24-point deficit in the 38-37 comeback win over Ole Miss.
  • Marked the largest comeback in program history for the Razorbacks.
  • Kelley is the only FBS freshman QB to throw for 3 TDs and rush for another in a conference game this season.
  • First freshman QB to lead Arkansas to an SEC win on the road as a starter since Mitch Mustain in 2006.

Offensive Lineman of the Week – Alan Knott, C, South Carolina

  • Knott has been a staple on the Gamecocks offensive line all season despite many injuries to players around him.
  • Was named to the watch list for the Rimington Award.
  • Helped pave the way for South Carolina’s offense that notched a season-high 212 yards rushing and 5.7 YPC against Vanderbilt.

Defensive Lineman of the Week – Montez Sweat, DE, Mississippi State

  • Recorded six tackles and a career-high two sacks against Texas A&M.
  • Helped the Bulldogs defense limit A&M to a season-low 14 points and just 96 yards rushing.
