Georgia’s defense this season has been nothing short of dominant.

On Monday, Bulldogs’ defensive coordinator Dan Lanning was named as one of 5 finalists for the Broyles Award, given annually to the top assistant coach in the country.

Under Lanning’s direction, Georgia allowed just 83 points all season and ranked 1st nationally in total defense.

The 35-year-old Lanning is in his 4th season as an assistant with the Bulldogs. He has been their defensive coordinator the past 3 years and also coaches outside linebackers.

The other finalists for the Broyles Award are Josh Gattis from Michigan, Jeff Grimes from Baylor, Jim Knowles from Oklahoma State, and Warren Ruggiero from Wake Forest.

The winner of the 2021 Broyles Award will be announced on Dec. 7.
