The ACC had homecourt advantage in its 2 wins. Unranked Clemson pulled off a close upset win over No. 4 Kentucky. No. 2 Auburn suffered its first loss of the season to No. 9 Duke at Cameron Indoor. While that game was a rankings upset, the Blue Devils closed at 3.5-point favorites at ESPN Bet.
No. 10 Alabama and No. 20 North Carolina was one of the most anticipated matchups. Though UA is the higher-ranked team, UNC closed as a 1.5-point home favorite at ESPN Bet.
No. 18 Pitt was expected to face a challenge on the road at unranked Mississippi State. The Bulldogs were favored at Humphrey Coliseum (5.5 points at ESPN Bet), but no one saw a 33-point blowout coming (90-57).
The SEC made quite a statement with the December Challenge results. We’ll see how things look in March.
