The SEC was without Alabama, LSU, Texas and Mizzou this weekend, as those 4 teams were on bye weeks.
But there were still plenty of great performances, especially on offense. Ole Miss scored 63 points. South Carolina scored 44 in a top-10 upset of Texas A&M.
The Week 10 SEC results are sure to shake up the AP Poll on Sunday, but for now, we’ll keep our focus on the SEC.
Here are the players who earn our game balls for SEC Week 10 action:
Alabama: OFF
Arkansas: Luke Hasz, TE
Xavian Sorey Jr. deserves consideration, but when the defense allows 63 points, a player on that side of the ball can’t win the game ball. That’s a new rule. So we’ll give it to Luke Hasz, who has been a reliable, solid tight end this year. He had 5 catches for 77 yards and a score this weekend. He deserves even more looks in this Bobby Petrino offense.
Auburn: Payton Thorne, QB
I honestly have no clue who to give this game ball to. But Thorne completed 20 of his 29 pass attempts for 239 yards, 1 touchdown and no interceptions. I’ve been saying all year that the Tigers are a competitive team when they just take care of the football. Thorne did that today and they still lost by 10. That’s on the coaching staff, not on Thorne.
Florida: Aidan Mizell, WR
Mizell, a freshman from Orlando, had 4 catches for 66 yards and a touchdown in this game. The Gators continue to be ravaged by injuries and, yet, in a minor bright spot, freshmen keep stepping up. Mizell was the latest. He looks like a contributor to future Florida teams.
Georgia: Nate Frazier, RB
Trevor Etienne exited the game early with an injury, leaving the Bulldogs incredibly short-handed at running back. Frazier stepped up, carrying the ball 19 times for 82 yards and a touchdown. On a night when not much else was working for Georgia, Frazier’s contributions were incredibly important.
Kentucky: Jamarion Wilcox, RB
Where do the Wildcats keep finding these talented running backs? Even short-handed at the running back position, Wilcox stepped up. The freshman from Georgia ran 17 times for 102 yards. He was about the only thing consistently working for the Kentucky offense, so he gets the game ball this week.
LSU: OFF
Mississippi State: Michael Van Buren Jr., QB
Allowing UMass to score 20 points on your home field is, frankly, embarrassing, so no one on defense is getting this game ball. I’ll give it to Van Buren for scoring 3 total touchdowns – 1 through the air, 2 on the ground. He’s playing some pretty solid football. He’ll be in the mix to start for Mississippi State next year.
Mizzou: OFF
Oklahoma: Jovantae Barnes, RB
Yeah, it was “only” against Maine, but Barnes ran 18 times for 203 yards and 3 scores. The Oklahoma rushing attack needed to gain some confidence and it appears Barnes did just that this week. We’ll see if it translates to next week’s Mizzou game.
Ole Miss: Jordan Watkins, WR
Ole Miss is absolutely stacked with receivers. Tre Harris injured? No problem. Jordan Watkins just decided to go off for 8 catches for 254 yards (31.8 yards per catch) and a whopping 5 touchdowns. QB Jaxson Dart deserves consideration for completing 25 of his 31 pass attempts for 515 yards and 6 touchdowns (with 0 interceptions), but I’ll give this one to Watkins for his 250+ yards and 5 scores.
South Carolina: LaNorris Sellers, QB
Sellers completed only 13 of his 27 passes, but those passes went for 244 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Sellers also didn’t lose a fumble while running 15 times for 106 yards and another score. When the Gamecocks’ offense doesn’t turn the ball over, the defense can win games for this team.
Tennessee: Miles Kitselman, TE
I could give this game ball to RB Dylan Sampson again, but his mantle is already cluttered with game balls. This one goes to the Vols’ tight end who posted 6 catches for 97 yards and 1 touchdown, nearly doubling his season-long production in only 1 game. He became QB Nico Iamaleava’s safety blanket on Saturday night.
Texas: OFF
Texas A&M: Amari Daniels, RB
Le’Veon Moss went out of Saturday night’s game with an injury early in the first half, leaving Daniels as the feature back. Even though the Aggies lost, Daniels didn’t disappoint. He ran 13 times for 83 yards and a score. His 56-yard TD run kept the Aggies in the game early before things spiraled.
Vanderbilt: Diego Pavia, QB
We’re going back to the well here and handing the game ball to Pavia, who threw for 2 touchdowns and didn’t commit a turnover. Yeah, he only completed 9 of his 22 pass attempts, but he did enough to get the Commodores their 6th victory, and that’s all that matters at the end of the day. Oh, and he’s now 3-0 against Hugh Freeze, which is quite impressive.
