SEC WEEK 5 NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

QUARTERBACKS

  • Kenny Hill, Texas A&M (21-41, 386 yards, 4 TD, INT vs. Arkansas) — Flustered for three quarters by an opponent equally as talented, Texas A&M’s sophomore leader came through in the clutch with a game-tying 59-yard strike to Josh Reynolds with 2:08 remaining in the first quarter and beautifully-thrown 25-yard touchdown to Malcome Kennedy on the first play of overtime to down the Razorbacks.
  • Brandon Harris, LSU (214 total yards of offense, 5 TD vs. New Mexico State) — Harris relieved starting quarterback Anthony Jennings after a turnover-filled first quarter and accounted for five total touchdowns, including three through the air.
  • Justin Worley, Tennessee (23-35, 264 yards, 3 TD at Georgia) — Without their senior quarterback, the Vols likely would not have been in the game against the Bulldogs thanks to Todd Gurley’s monstrous effort. One of Worley’s best career outings included two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to pull Tennessee within three points on each strike after he had missed the previous four series with an elbow injury. Worley had the hot hand late, but the Vols failed to regained possession on an onside kick and couldn’t stop Gurley on fourth down.
  • Nick Marshall, Auburn (10-17, 166 yards passing, 3 TD; 105 yards rushing vs. Louisiana Tech) — Auburn’s dual-threat hooked up with Quan Bray twice for scores, fired an 18-yard strike to D’haquille Williams and went over the 100-yard rushing mark for the second time this season.

RUNNING BACKS

  • Todd Gurley (28 carries, 208 yards, 2 TD vs. Tennessee) — As expected, Gurley jumped right back into the Heisman race with a career-best rushing effort against East rival Tennessee. Down the stretch, the Vols had no answer for the bruising junior and Gurley’s 54-yard scamper proved to be ultimately one of the fatal blows.
  • Leonard Fournette (18 carries, 122 yards, 2 TD vs. New Mexico State) — The star freshman’s first career 100-yard game included the perfect mixture of strength between the tackles and gallops to the outside. Fournette was the only offense early for a unit that turned it over four times before quarterback Brandon Harris’ entry into the game.

WIDE RECEIVERS

  • Edward Pope, Texas A&M (4 catches, 151 yards, 2 TD vs. Arkansas) — Pope’s pair of scores against the Razorbacks were both highlight worthy, the first coming on a diving grab in the middle of the end zone on an 8-yard pass from Kenny Hill in the second quarter. Most of his 151 receiving yards came on an 86-yard grab in the fourth quarter after he separated from an Arkansas defensive back and did the rest himself.
  • Laquon Treadwell, Ole Miss (5 catches, 123 yards, 2 TD vs. Memphis) — One of the SEC’s top receivers got the scoring started for the Rebels with a 63-yard catch and run over the top early in the first quarter. He added a win-clinching trip to the end zone in the final frame on a 17-yard deep post behind coverage.
