Week 5 brought some of the most exciting matchups in the SEC yet. Two of the seven matchups in SEC play have come from one possession that has major SEC Championship Game and College Football Playoff implications. Those made major changes in ESPN’s latest power rankings. 7 teams from the SEC find themselves in the top 25 in the new power rankings.

Last week, the Florida Gators were ranked at No. 22. They had a chance to climb higher with a big road win over a divisional opponent in the Kentucky Wildcats. The Wildcats started early to defeat the Gators. This was the third consecutive win for the Wildcats over the Gators.

The Georgia Bulldogs got a serious scare from their SEC West rival in the Auburn Tigers. Georgia needed a huge performance from star tight end Brock Bowers to secure a 27-20 victory.

Alabama had its best offensive performance of the year with a 40-17 win at Mississippi State. #21 Tennessee rebounds from its tough loss at Florida two weeks ago with a 41-20 win at home over South Carolina. Missouri remains undefeated by defeating Vanderbilt 38-21.

The biggest game in the SEC this past week, and perhaps all of college football, is the shootout between the LSU Tigers at Ole Miss Rebels. The Tigers and the Rebels combined for 1,343 yards, with 809 yards coming from the passing game. Ole Miss defeated LSU 55-49 as the Rebels rose in ESPN’s power rankings, while LSU fell out of the top 25 in the power rankings.
