SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic names his top 5 SEC running backs for 2020
As the 2020 season quickly approaches (hopefully), SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic has been ranking his top players from the conference.
On Saturday, he turned his attention to the running back position. Even though the SEC lost guys like Clyde Edwards-Helaire and D’Andre Swift this offseason, it still has plenty of depth.
Somewhat surprisingly, Alabama RB Najee Harris doesn’t have the No. 1 spot, though it’s hard to argue with Mississippi State star Kylin Hill’s talent:

Boyd is consistently one of the most-underrated players in the SEC since Arkansas has struggled the last 2 years. Then, Ealy and White are 2 big-time up-and-comers in the conference.
Will these guys live up to their lofty expectations? We’ll find out starting this fall!
White is about to wake a lot of people up this year he’s got his Explosiveness back everyone knows you’re better the second year back after knee surgery than the first that’s why I don’t know why everyone is so high on Dylan Moses third game against UGA he’s not gonna be nearly as good as he’s going to be at the end of the season for that simple fact alone UGA chances of winning goes up.Then with Jamie Newman and a new offense there’s no way we’re gonna be worse. To say the least I like our chances in week three more than most people may think
IF he can stay healthy, yes he’ll explode.
There is always the chance to be worse on offense…
Cole is usually spot on in these lists but not having Najee #1 is just wrong. Kylin Hill is a good running back but he’s not the best in the league.
I don’t know, Hill, overall feels like the slight favorite. Both of them can hurdle, both can catch passes, but Harris is compact, Hill is elusive. Overall, usually analysts give the nod to the elusive backs. Just how it is.
I like the K. Hill pick at #1. He earned it. It also seems that a lot of people are sleeping on Eric Gray. Kid came on strong to finish 2019 and everyone keeps talking about how good the TN o-line is going to be. The TN passing game will likely be at the bottom of the conf in production, but the running game could/should be top 5.
What really stands out with this list is that the two MS schools and Ark have top 5 rated RBs, while some of the blue-blood schools, such as UF, LSU and Aub were completely shut out of the list, while White really only made the list based off his HS ranking.
well LSU from what I know the past couple years has had not a true #1 at RB, and both years they worked out well. Brosette in 18, CEH in 19. I guess it will be Davis-Price or Emery who steps up. LSU will always have a good RB
Kylin Hill will Not Get the # of Carries as he did in 2019. The New “Air-Raid” Offense Features filling-the-air with Footballs, not Running-Plays.
No, but he reversed his NFL decision after Leach was hired, so that says something. Getting the ball to him in space with the D spread out should be fun. He’s one of the best on the open field that we’ve had at State.
Getting tired of not having a top 5 SEC running back… Last one was Kerryon. Maybe Tank can get us up there again.
You can’t have a top 5 back if there are 5 better backs in the conference.
Not saying any of our running backs are better than these. Just hoping we can finally get another 1000 yard rusher and find the next great AU RB.
I’m biased but I think Eric Gray is going to have a good year.
A good O-Line = a good RB. If Tennessee has a good O-Line, Gray is gonna be at least pretty decent.
Yeah he could be special. But definitely helps that we may have a good oline. Haven’t had that in a while.
I’ve never seen Gray really play. But I’ve heard a lot of good things about him. I’d put him along with Tank Bigsby and Marshawn Lloyd as sleepers among RBs in the SEC.
Here is his top 5 for 2019
1) D’Andre Swift – Georgia
2) Ke’Shawn Vaughn – Vanderbilt
3) Larry Rountree – Missouri
4) Lamical Perine – Florida
5) Scottie Phillips – Ole Miss
Scottie Philllips had 500 yards
Perine also had 500 yards
Put Ealy instead of Phillips
Kylin Hill and Najee Harris were also great last year.
Roundtree had 864 and averaged 4.5
