Among the weekly things to look forward to following SEC action each week this fall are the takeaways from SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic.
He presented opinions and analysis on every team in the SEC, and Cubelic had some first-hand knowledge as he was in Knoxville for Tennessee’s win on Thursday, and Gainesville for Florida’s win on Saturday reporting from the sidelines.
Here are his takeaways:
We do it each week, my Sunday SEC takeaways…
ALABAMA: Dominant win. OL shift with Owens at RT seemed fine, struggled a tad w/movement. 73 solid. Didn’t even seem to execute extremely well early & still couldn’t be stopped. Williams has different speed. QB makes it all go though

AUBURN: Handled their business. QB looked much more comfy. Under center play action seems to help rhythm. 4 is ridiculous. 68 & 71 looked good up front. OL little better. The variation is fun to see. TE use will help. Big day for EDGE defenders. 3rd level didn’t get much work.

GEORGIA: Suffocating defensive performance. Tackled VERY well. Covered well in 1 on 1’s. Removed passing lanes. Won Indv matchups. Moved pocket. Hit QB. They did it all & did it well. 69 was good up front, props to 63 for handling C. 19 critical for this offense. Statement win!

LSU: Tough circumstances but a rough performance. Formations were a problem for the defense. Out of place often with fits. Gave away some free yards. Not enough up front on offense. Still need some semblance of a ground game. 1 needs to be fed. Miserable on 3rd down. Have time…

MISSOURI: Solid production offensively but you convert ONE 3rd down?? Can’t have that this week. 1 ran hard, really nice game. First game in a new defense. Expect improvement but some moments were head scratchers for sure. All hands on deck this week. 25 looked good on D!

TENNESSEE: Loved the opportunities provided by the offenses. More plays, more shots, more skill involved. Could have been much faster as well. Still had a few contributors out. Got away from run early 1st half & I felt it slowed them down. QB consistency growth will be key.

VANDERBILT: I’m not sure I have words. Especially when you consider it could’ve been worse. This project may be bigger than we imagined. Couldn’t run the ball. Couldn’t stop the run. Turned it over.
