SEC fans may bristle at a new top 10 ranking by SEC Network analyst D.J. Shockley.

The former Georgia quarterback has Ohio State at No. 1 in a ranking through action from the first month of the season. His opinion was no doubt influenced by Ohio State’s big win over Nebraska, and Clemson’s narrow win over North Carolina. The Tigers are at No. 6, which is considerably lower than other major polls.

Through Week 5, teams, and fans, are beginning to pick out strength of schedules as critics of Alabama and Ohio State have said their opponents haven’t been as difficult as Georgia and LSU, for example, which have beaten Notre Dame and Texas.

Auburn is likely to get a third test of the season this week when the Tigers play at Florida in a game that is the destination for both ESPN’s “College GameDay” and the “SEC on CBS.”

But teams like Alabama and Georgia likely won’t be tested until November. Schedule strength will also gain strength in ranking discussions as the likes of Oklahoma and Clemson don’t appear to face many tough opponents, especially outside of Texas.
