With the 2016 college football season officially in the books, the offseason brings a period of conjecture, rumors, opinion, and hot-button issues.

One of these topics include head coaching stability. For some major programs, the proverbial hot seat is always burning at a low level. When unexpected losses start to pile up, the temperature increases considerably.

SEC Network analyst (and former NFL player) Booger McFarland tweeted out a list of three coaches he feels should be worried about their jobs heading into this upcoming season:

Notre Dame is one of the biggest stages within the sport. As such, Brian Kelly faces constant criticism and questioning.

He didn’t help himself out this past year — as the Fighting Irish finished a paltry 4-8. Since Notre Dame’s National Championship appearance in 2012, Notre Dame has gone 31-20 in four seasons.

Jones has won nine games in two-straight seasons, and has led the Volunteers to back-to-back-to-back bowl victories. With that said, UT has yet to take the next step in becoming an elite program within the SEC. Tennessee was hindered greatly this past year due to a mass amount of injuries.

Based upon his impressive ability on the recruiting trails, this scenario may occur sooner than later.

Sumlin may be the coach with the most to worry about.

A&M loses a ton from this year’s team, and will be breaking in a new signal-caller (perhaps true freshman Kellen Mond) against a tough non-conference opener at UCLA — not to mention the full SEC slate.

Sumlin won 11 games in his first year at College Station. Since then, the Aggies haven’t won more than nine. A&M has lost its last two bowl game appearances. The program has also consistently struggled in conference play during the month of November. Sumlin’s conference record through five years is 21-19.

Both Jones and Sumlin have added pressure emanating from two of their rivals, Georgia and Texas. The momentum emanating from both Kirby Smart and Tom Herman (particularly in recruiting) make things even more arduous for the aforementioned duo.

For those reasons, it will be fascinating to see how the 2017 season plays out for all three coaches and their respective programs.
