The Alabama Crimson Tide are the near-unanimous No. 1 team in the AP Poll (looking at you, Soren Petro), while the Georgia Bulldogs are No. 2.

However, many believe that there is a sizable gap between the Tide and the rest of the country.

On SEC Now on Tuesday, ESPN’s Tom Luginbill and SEC Network analyst DJ Shockley discussed what they think separates Alabama from Georgia:

“In terms of depth, they (Alabama) have better players than Georgia does,” Luginbill said. “That plays a big role because when it gets to be Week 10 or 12 and you need to be peaking, you also need to be at your best health. And I think that’s where the gap is defined.”

Shockley agreed, but then added that the defensive line at Alabama is way ahead of where Georgia’s is:

“I’ll say this as well,” he said. “I think there’s a big gap in the front — the defensive line. Right now, Georgia hasn’t been getting pressure on the quarterback like they have in the past. … Three sacks right now for Georgia. Sixteen for Alabama. It’s a difference up front.”

These teams appear to be on a crash course to the SEC title game in December. Both have been fun to watch, and we’ll have to see what happens as the year progresses.
