SEC players dominate latest ranking of Top 25 prospects set to enter NFL
The list of the top prospects set to enter the NFL Draft is ever changing, especially throughout the college football season.
Bucky Brooks and Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com routinely rank the top 25 prospects ahead of next spring, and they recently released the third version of the top 25 prospects. As expected, the SEC was well represented with 13 listed in the top 25.
Ohio State DE Nick Bosa was the top overall prospect, but four of the top 10 all hail from the SEC, including LSU DB Greedy Williams, Alabama DL Raekwon Davis, LSU LB Devin White and Georgia DB Deandre Baker.
Williams is listed as the top cornerback in the draft in this version. Brooks and Jeremiah explained that Williams is a “crafty cover corner with outstanding instincts, awareness and ball skills.” He can blanket receivers in press coverage or sit back and jump routes using superb “off” technique. Size is a concern, but his skills could make it hard to bypass.
Davis has “explosive pass-rush skills” and can attack the quarterback from multiple spots, exhibiting outstanding quickness, athleticism and burst.
Baker is considered a ‘rock-solid cover corner with size, instincts and ball skills,” but he’s best at “clueing” the quarterback in “off” coverage.
The top two quarterbacks are Oregon’s Justin Herbert at No. 2, and West Virginia’s Will Grier at No. 12.
Non-UGA/LSU fans, who do you think is better—Greedy or Baker?
I would have to say Baker. Both good prospects but to me Baker is better. Greedy plays with hands to much in coverage.
Greedy is good, but Grant Delpit is the best DB on LSU’s team this year. And Kristian Fulton is probably just as good as Greedy. Greedy and Fulton both have been flagged for interference this year, which is not what LSU fans want to see. We’ve had better CBs.
Given the emphasis on getting effective edge rushers in the NFL, I might put Montez Sweat, rather than Simmons, on the list, even though Simmons is probably a little better at his position than Sweat is at his…and that is saying a lot. Frankly, I think both are in the top 25, ahead of a couple of the QBs listed.
This isn’t a stellar draft class by any means.
Josh Allen? Still not seen enough?
