The SEC players of the week were handed out this week and even with three of the top teams (Alabama, LSU, and Mississippi State) on bye there were plenty of impressive performances.
With 400 total yards (381 passing and 21 rushing) and two touchdowns it’s tough to see fault in the SEC’s pick of QB Chad Kelly for the conference’s offensive player of the week as he led his team over Auburn, but man, RB Alex Collins can’t catch a break — 16 rushes for 173 yards, five touchdowns and still the running back gets no love from his conference.
On the defensive side of the ball, Dick Butkus Award finalist Antonio Morrison played his part in Florida’s dominating win over Georgia, leading a Gators defense that allowed just 69 rushing yards to a Bulldog team that even without RBs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel (for most of the game) should still average more than 3.1 yards per carry.
The most encouraging performance came from Texas A&M freshman QB Kyler Murray who completed over 71% of his passes for 223 yards and a touchdown, winning him freshman SEC Player of the Week. Return Specialist Evan Berry also went home with an award after taking his only return of the day for 100 yards and a touchdown.
