SEC Pride: what SEC fans have to brag about after Week 11

SEC fans are a prideful bunch. From historically great programs to wonderful fan traditions to the conference’s recent dominance over the college football landscape, there’s plenty to chant “S-E-C!” about. Here’s a look at five things the conference’s fans can point to after week 6 of the regular season.

  1. The nation’s best crop of signal callers. This was supposed to be a down year for SEC quarterbacks, but no one informed this year’s crop of passers. The Davey O’Brien Award announced its list of semifinalists on Monday, and four names on the list —Blake Sims, Nick Marshall, Dak Prescott and Bo Wallace — were SEC quarterbacks. Those four make up a quarter of the 16 players listed, and no other conference has more players on the list as the SEC does (although the Big 12 also has four).
  2. Crazy good hands. From Malachi Dupre’s one-handed touchdown grab to Jalen Tabor’s crazy interception, the SEC’s athletes on both sides showed that “SEC hands” are a real thing.
  3. Resilient teams. By all accounts, Texas A&M was done for the season. After three straight SEC losses, the Aggies had nothing left to play for. Instead of rolling over, they came out on Saturday and spoiled Auburn’s chances at the College Football Playoff. It’s not just the fans that have pride in the SEC; the teams clearly are too proud to lay down, too.
  4. Playoff contenders. The SEC will likely have its fourth different team ranked in the Top 4 of the College Football Playoff poll this week. After Auburn and Ole Miss were knocked out by their second losses, Alabama seems poised to enter the fray this week.
  5. Another College GameDay visit. The best game in the nation this coming week is without a doubt No. 1 Mississippi State’s visit to Tuscaloosa to take on Alabama. ESPN College GameDay will end a two-week hiatus from visiting SEC campuses, making its fifth trip to an SEC campus this fall, most of any conference.
