It didn’t take long for “Separation Saturday” to turn into “Shakeup Saturday,” as five of the top eight teams in last week’s AP Poll fell in a wild weekend of college football.

But despite all the shakeup in the rankings, ESPN college football broadcaster Rece Davis still has not one, not two but three SEC West teams in his current College Football Playoff Field: defending SEC champ Auburn, up-and-coming Ole Miss and the surprise of the SEC this season Mississippi State. His fourth team is defending national champion Florida State.

The four teams Davis mentions, including all three from the SEC West, are among the nine remaining unbeaten teams in the FBS, along with the Big 12’s TCU and Baylor, the ACC’s Georgia Tech, the PAC 12’s Arizona and historic independent Notre Dame.

No other conference has more than two unbeatens remaining, and no single division in college football has more than one, except, of course, the SEC West and its three dominant frontrunners.

There are still eight weeks left in the regular season, but the SEC West received some high praise from a very educated ESPN analyst in Davis. It appears even a weekend loaded with upsets couldn’t dethrone the West from atop the college football world.
